Uninstall and reinstall Silverlight on Windows

Realtime Web runs on a platform called Microsoft Silverlight. Sometimes Microsoft Silverlight becomes old or corrupted and needs to be updated. First, try Microsoft’s free “Fix It” tool. This may automatically fix the problem. If that doesn’t work, then you can uninstall and reinstall Silverlight manually.

To uninstall the Silverlight plug-in:

  • Windows 8:
    1. Quit all open browsers. Since Silverlight lives in the browser, you need to close the browser in order to update Silverlight.
    2. If you are on a touch screen: Swipe from the right edge of the screen, then tap Settings.
    3. If you are using a mouse or touchpad: Point to the lower-right corner of the screen, then click Settings.
    4. Click/Tap Control Panel.
    5. Click/Tap Programs & Features.
    6. Locate and select Microsoft Silverlight.
    7. Click/Tap Uninstall.
