Step by Step to change Firefox from standard Release to ESR (Extended Support Release)
"update-settings.ini" file:
- Open the folder, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox"
- Drag the file update-settings.ini to the Desktop and Hold the CTRL key when you let go so it creates a copy
your system settings may hide the ".ini" portion of the filename - Open Notepad
- Drag the copied file into the Notepad window
- Modify the value
firefox-mozilla-release
to
firefox-mozilla-esr - Save
- Drag the file from the desktop back to the original folder (no need for the CTRL key this time)
system will prompt if you wish to over write the existing file - yes you do
system will prompt you to continue with administrative privilege - confirm this - Drag the file back into the Notepad Window to verify that the change was successful
"channel-prefs.js" file:
- Open the folder, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref"
- Drag the file channel-prefs.js to the Desktop and Hold the CTRL key when you let go so it creates a copy
your system settings may hide the ".js" portion of the filename - Open Notepad
- Drag the copied file into the Notepad window
- Modify the value
