Enrolling:

    1) If you have small (especially narrow) fingers, use your widest fingers, even your thumb, so that you have the maximum possible contact with the lens

    2) When enrolling, place your finger firmly on the lens with moderate pressure.  You don't want to press so hard as to bend or break the plastic, but don't be too light of touch.

    3) Place finger onto the lens without sliding or rolling it into position.

    4) Place your finger so the center of the swirl is in the center of the lens.

    5) If your fingers tend to be dry, try to add a little moisture when enrolling and punching.

  • Easiest option is to "breathe" on your finger print pad, like you would if you were going to fog your glasses prior to wiping them.
  • If you have access to Fingerprint Enhancer gel, that can be highly beneficial.
  • Another option is to touch your finger to your forehead or the side of your nose first.  These areas tend to have a higher amount of skin oils which will help the scanner notice your finger and read the ridge patterns easier.

    6) Rotate your finger slightly left, centered, and slightly right for your three enrolling scans.  "Rotate" means to have your extended finger pointing to the 11:00 position, the 12:00 position and the 1:00 position.  It does not mean to have the clock read the side of your finger tip or fingerprint pad.  This will help the clock identify you if your finger isn't exactly centered for your subsequent reads.

Daily Use:

    1) As with #2 above, place your finger firmly with moderate pressure

    2) As with #3 above, place your finger during punching without sliding or rolling it into place

    3) As with #4 above, if your fingers are dry, try to add a little moisture to your fingerprint pad.

    4) Key your ID, then touch the lens.  If the clock senses your finger but doesn't read it, try typing your ID first, then touch your finger.  You don't need to press OK after typing your number, but it won't be a problem if you do.  This allows the clock to compare the current read with your specific stored image.  It will not require as many points of similarity to succeed.

Maintenance:

  1. Clean the lens with a small strip of tape, like Scotch tape.  Stick the tape to the lens and pull it away.  Do this several times if necessary.  Do not use any chemical or solvent for cleaning - including Windex, ammonia products, alcohol, soaps, etc. on the original (rubbery) fingerprint sensors.  Newer (hard surface) fingerprint readers will handle cleaners, mild soaps, disinfectants and the like.

  2. You can lower the pass/fail thresholds  in the Advanced Options (B&W screen) or System >> System (TFT screen).
Default value for Identify mode (Touch and Go) is 35 points of similarity. (1:n)
Default value for Verify mode (ID, then Touch) is 15 points of similarity. (1:1)

Note 1: Lowering the Identify mode threshold too far can cause the clock to Identify the wrong person

Note 2: Lowering the Verify mode threshold too far can permit the clock to verify an incorrect finger image
